Manual freight measurement is one of the most common — and most underestimated — bottlenecks in warehouse and distribution centre operations. Errors in dimensions or weight have direct consequences: carrier surcharges, billing discrepancies, load planning problems and loss of traceability.
At LYL we have spent years helping logistics and industrial companies eliminate these problems with proven automation solutions. And today we want to introduce the most advanced of them for high-volume environments: the Apache Flying Forklift 2.0.
What is the Apache Flying Forklift 2.0?
The Apache Flying Forklift 2.0 is a dynamic system for volume and weight measurement and image capture that works while the forklift passes through a scanning portal. It requires no stops, no additional operators and does not interrupt the logistics flow at any point.
The system uses LiDAR sensors and high-precision cameras that detect the moving load while simultaneously identifying the forklift. Once recognised, the forklift is automatically excluded from the measurement — it is “blurred out” — allowing only the relevant freight data to be captured with precision.
How does it work?
The entire process takes seconds, while the forklift passes through the portal with its usual load:
Key features and benefits
It is the fastest and most efficient variant in the APACHE family for capturing freight master data. Logistics operations are never interrupted, eliminating downtime and bottlenecks.
LiDAR sensors deliver a resolution of 2 cm on all three axes, with a maximum measurement area of 210 × 210 × 280 cm. Suitable for the vast majority of standard palletised loads.
Captured data is automatically transferred to the customer’s management systems through defined interfaces. Manual data entry and the errors associated with it are completely eliminated.
The system can be calibrated in accordance with MID:009 regulations and validated as part of the manufacturer’s initial verification process. The collected data is legally valid for billing and freight control purposes.
The system automatically detects discrepancies between declared and measured data. This has a direct impact on revenue recovery and contributes to a very rapid return on investment.
The APACHE portal can be installed on the ceiling, wall or in a self-supporting configuration, adapting to the existing warehouse infrastructure without major construction work.

What type of company is the Apache Flying Forklift 2.0 for?
The system is especially well-suited for operations with a high volume of forklift movements and a need to capture freight master data quickly, accurately and with legal validity:
- Logistics operators and 3PLs: Managing freight for multiple clients, requiring reliable dimensional data for every shipment and full delivery traceability.
- Express freight and courier companies: High-volume transit hubs where every second counts. The system eliminates stops and maximises warehouse throughput.
- Distributors and manufacturers: Companies with their own LTL outbound operation looking to eliminate carrier surcharges and improve shipping data accuracy.
- E-commerce and retail: High volumes of outbound pallets with a need to automate master data capture without adding steps to the order preparation process.
Apache Flying Forklift 2.0 vs. manual measurement
| Criteria | Manual measurement | Apache Flying Forklift 2.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Operational stops | Every pallet requires a stop | Zero stops |
| Time per pallet | 2–5 minutes | Seconds (on the move) |
| Accuracy | Variable, operator-dependent | ±2 cm (LiDAR) |
| Load photography | Not available | Automatic on every pass |
| WMS / ERP integration | Manual or non-existent | Automatic and immediate |
| Legal validity of data | No certification | Calibratable MID:009 |
| Under-declared freight detection | Systematically impossible | Automatic — 100% |
How can LYL help you implement it?
LYL is the go-to technology partner for Apache Flying Forklift 2.0 implementation. We support our clients at every stage of the project:
We evaluate your forklift flow, warehouse infrastructure and existing management systems to identify the optimal installation point.
We define the portal configuration (ceiling, wall or self-supporting) and measurement parameters adapted to your load profile.
We connect the system to your management platforms so that data flows automatically and without manual intervention.
We carry out the full commissioning, MID:009 calibration and training of your operational team.
We ensure the system operates correctly over the long term with specialised technical support.
Conclusion
If your warehouse moves freight by forklift and still relies on manual measurements, now is the time to make the leap.
